Statkraft Signs 4.8 TWh Power Supply Agreements with Alcoa to Support Norway Aluminium Plant Operations

Statkraft has signed two long-term power supply agreements with Alcoa, securing approximately 4.8 TWh of electricity deliveries between 2028 and 2031 to support the continued operation of Alcoa’s aluminium smelter at Lista, Norway.

The agreements provide a stable and predictable electricity supply for the facility, reinforcing its long-term operational viability following the recent restart of Production Line 2. The production line, with an annual capacity of 31,000 metric tonnes, has been successfully brought back online, enabling the plant to reach its full nameplate production capacity of 95,000 metric tonnes per year.

The newly secured power supply is expected to strengthen Alcoa’s industrial presence in Norway while supporting ongoing production and future development at the Lista facility.

According to Alcoa, reliable and competitively priced electricity remains critical for maintaining operations at the energy-intensive aluminium smelter. The company stated that the agreements form part of its broader strategy to secure long-term power supply on commercial terms for its Norwegian operations.

Statkraft said the agreements reflect continued demand from large industrial customers seeking long-term electricity contracts amid evolving energy market conditions. The company added that the partnership with Alcoa supports regional industrial activity and value creation in Southwest Norway (NO2), where it continues to develop power supply solutions and infrastructure.

The agreements also underscore the importance of predictable regulatory frameworks and long-term access to electricity for Norway’s energy-intensive industries, particularly aluminium manufacturing, as the country seeks to maintain industrial competitiveness while advancing its clean energy transition.

The Alcoa agreement follows several long-term industrial power contracts signed by Statkraft this year, highlighting sustained demand for stable electricity pricing and supply among major industrial consumers.
