Under the RESPITE initiative, the funding will support the expansion of the Mount Coffee Solar Park from 20 MW to 30 MW, alongside the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to improve grid reliability and renewable energy integration.

The project also includes upgrades to Liberia’s national electricity transmission and distribution network, as well as improvements to infrastructure at the Mount Coffee energy complex, aimed at enhancing the country’s power system resilience and operational efficiency.

The broader US$125 million financing package signed between the Government of Liberia and the World Bank also includes investments in digital connectivity and road infrastructure, supporting the country’s wider economic development agenda.

The RESPITE investment is expected to strengthen Liberia’s clean energy capacity while improving electricity access and grid stability through expanded solar generation and energy storage infrastructure. The project is also anticipated to create opportunities for engineering, procurement, construction, and technology providers participating in the country’s growing renewable energy sector.
