Statcon Energiaa Pvt. Ltd. (SEPL) has secured an order from L&T Electrolysers Limited to supply high-power rectifiers for Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) 10,000 tonnes per annum (10 kTPA) Green Hydrogen Project at the Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex in Haryana.
The project, being developed by L&T Energy GreenTech, is expected to become India’s largest green hydrogen plant for a refinery and is targeted for commissioning by December 2027. The facility marks the first major milestone in IOCL’s strategy to establish 350 kTPA of green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, supporting India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and broader decarbonization goals.
Under the contract, Statcon Energiaa will supply 4 MW high-power rectifier blocks that will power the alkaline electrolyser modules manufactured by L&T Electrolysers at its facility in Hazira, Gujarat. The project represents one of India’s first large-scale green hydrogen developments built around an end-to-end indigenous manufacturing ecosystem, with both the electrolysers and rectifiers produced domestically.
The rectifiers will incorporate IGBT chopper-based technology developed under Statcon Energiaa’s licensing and supply agreement with AEG Power Solutions GmbH, Germany. While leveraging AEG’s proven power conversion components, the rectifier systems are designed, assembled, commissioned, and serviced by Statcon Energiaa in India to meet local operating conditions.
According to the company, the liquid-cooled rectifiers feature a 12-pulse thyristor bridge with IGBT chopper topology, providing low-ripple direct current output required for efficient alkaline electrolysis. The systems are also engineered to handle variable power input from renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, while maintaining high power quality, output stability, harmonic control, and continuous round-the-clock operation.
The modular architecture aligns with L&T Electrolysers’ 4 MW electrolyser block design, creating an integrated Indian-made solution for large-scale green hydrogen production.
The project highlights the growing localization of India’s green hydrogen supply chain under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Beyond manufacturing the electrolysers domestically, the project also relies on Indian-produced critical power electronics required to convert renewable electricity into the stable direct current needed for hydrogen production.
Statcon Energiaa said its selection followed L&T Electrolysers’ technical qualification process, with the company’s rectifiers meeting stringent requirements for efficiency, output stability, harmonic performance, renewable energy integration, and long-term operational reliability.
The company brings more than 37 years of experience in power electronics manufacturing and has previously supplied rectifier systems for several green hydrogen projects in India, including the NTPC Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh, where its equipment was engineered to operate under extreme climatic conditions. Statcon Energiaa has also delivered power conversion systems for defence applications, solar energy projects, and industrial installations, with more than 30,000 installations across over 25 countries.
Commenting on the order, Anil Dhar, Marketing Director of Statcon Energiaa Pvt. Ltd., said the contract reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to manufacturing advanced power electronics in India for critical infrastructure projects. He noted that the partnership demonstrates how indigenous manufacturing capabilities are supporting the development of India’s green hydrogen ecosystem through locally produced electrolysers and rectifier technologies.
