The Massachusetts Senate has passed S. 3143, a landmark energy bill aimed at expanding access to affordable, reliable clean energy across the Commonwealth while supporting grid modernization and faster project deployment.
The legislation introduces measures to streamline grid interconnection processes and modernize residential permitting through automated systems. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the changes are expected to reduce project delays, lower development costs, and improve access to affordable electricity for households and businesses.
The bill also seeks to address rising electricity demand by making it easier to develop energy infrastructure, strengthen grid reliability, and support the state’s clean energy goals.
Commenting on the Senate’s approval, Ruthie DeWit, Northeast State Affairs Director at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), said the legislation would help Massachusetts meet growing electricity demand with affordable, locally generated clean energy. She added that the organization appreciates the Senate’s leadership and looks forward to working with the conference committee as the legislative process continues.
