Tata Power-DDL Steps Up Monsoon Preparedness to Strengthen Grid Reliability and Public Safety

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has intensified its monsoon preparedness programme with network maintenance, safety inspections and emergency response measures aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply and enhancing public safety across North and North-West Delhi during the rainy season.

The distribution utility has completed pre-monsoon inspections and maintenance of key power infrastructure, including electric poles, distribution transformers and cables, to improve network resilience and minimise weather-related disruptions.

As part of its preparedness plan, Tata Power-DDL carried out a Current Leakage Testing Drive covering electric poles, PWD and MCD poles, streetlight poles, ATMs, substations, park fencing, schools, hospitals and other public installations to identify and eliminate electrical safety risks.

The company has also deployed dedicated 24×7 emergency response teams with a focus on flood-prone and high-risk locations. Additionally, it completed a Public Installation Safety Audit (PISA) covering more than 5,300 installations, including schools, hospitals, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) water treatment plants and commercial premises.

To improve supply continuity during heavy rainfall, Tata Power-DDL has raised the height of substations vulnerable to waterlogging and undertaken preventive tree trimming and vegetation management to reduce the risk of damage to electrical infrastructure.

Commenting on the preparedness measures, a Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said:

“With pre-monsoon weather becoming increasingly erratic and the monsoon expected to arrive later than usual, we have intensified maintenance of our power infrastructure to ensure reliable electricity supply and the safety of residents across North and North-West Delhi. Our comprehensive preparedness measures are designed to minimise disruptions and respond swiftly to weather-related challenges. We urge all our customers to remain vigilant and follow electrical safety guidelines. Together, we can ensure a safe and secure monsoon season.”

Alongside infrastructure upgrades, the utility is conducting consumer awareness campaigns on electrical safety. Notices are being issued where safety violations are identified, while power supply is being disconnected to hazardous installations in congested areas to prevent accidents such as electrocution and flash burns.

Field personnel have also been trained on monsoon-specific electrical safety protocols, including the mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe working practices.

The company has urged residents to avoid electrical installations, feeder pillars and electrical panels during heavy rains, and to immediately report exposed wires, open bus-bars or other electrical hazards through its toll-free helpline (19124), the TPDDL Connect mobile app, WhatsApp (7303482071) or the company’s website.

Tata Power-DDL also advised consumers to regularly inspect electrical appliances for leakage, protect meter boxes from water, install residual current protection devices, avoid handling electrical equipment with wet hands, and use only CO₂ or dry chemical extinguishers in the event of an electrical fire.

The utility distributes electricity to nearly 9 million consumers across North Delhi and said its preparedness measures are aimed at ensuring reliable service while reducing the risk of electricity-related incidents during the monsoon season.
