Canadian Solar Named Tier 1 Supplier for Battery Energy Storage Systems and PV Modules by S&P Global Energy

Canadian Solar Inc. has been recognised as a Tier 1 supplier for both battery energy storage systems (BESS) and photovoltaic (PV) modules in the 2026 S&P Global Energy Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list, highlighting the company’s presence across both the energy storage and solar sectors.

The recognition places Canadian Solar among qualified suppliers that meet S&P Global Energy’s assessment criteria, which evaluate companies based on factors including market presence, cumulative equipment shipments, annual market share, global manufacturing diversification, financial performance, and sustainability.

According to S&P Global Energy, the Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list provides a comprehensive assessment of supplier strength by combining proprietary market data with financial and sustainability metrics rather than relying solely on market share.

Edurne Zoco, Head of Clean Technologies and Supply Chains at S&P Global Energy, said the assessment considers multiple dimensions, including market leadership, financial performance, and sustainability, to provide a broader evaluation of suppliers operating in the clean technology sector.

Commenting on the recognition, Colin Parkin, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Solar, said the dual Tier 1 designation for energy storage systems and photovoltaic modules demonstrates the company’s track record and supports developers and investors in identifying suppliers with strong long-term capabilities.

The 2026 S&P Global Energy Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list is not a ranked index but a roster of companies that satisfy S&P Global Energy’s methodology. Companies are listed alphabetically within each technology category.

S&P Global Energy selected companies from the top 30 global suppliers in five clean energy technology segments—solar PV modules, solar PV inverters, energy storage systems, energy storage battery cells, and wind turbines—based on global equipment shipments or installations recorded during the previous year.

The organisation said the Tier 1 Cleantech Companies classification is the first supplier assessment in the clean technology industry to incorporate sustainability as a core evaluation criterion. The list will be updated annually to reflect changes in supplier performance across the assessed indicators.
