CrossBoundary Energy has entered into an Early Works Agreement (EWA) with Ausgold Limited to develop a hybrid power solution for the Katanning Gold Project in Western Australia. The agreement marks the beginning of a partnership aimed at providing reliable and sustainable energy to support the project’s future mining operations.
Under the agreement, CrossBoundary Energy will be responsible for designing and supplying a complete power generation system that combines gas-fired generation, solar power, and battery energy storage. By integrating multiple energy sources, the hybrid system is expected to deliver a stable and efficient electricity supply while reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels. The inclusion of battery energy storage will also help improve energy reliability by storing excess solar power and supplying electricity when needed.
The Katanning Gold Project is one of Ausgold Limited’s key mining developments and is expected to begin gold production in 2028. As the project progresses toward construction and commercial operations, securing a dependable power supply is considered an essential requirement for ensuring smooth and uninterrupted mining activities. The hybrid energy solution is expected to provide operational flexibility while supporting the project’s long-term sustainability goals.
CrossBoundary Energy believes the agreement is an important milestone in its collaboration with Ausgold. According to Tim Foster, Managing Director of CrossBoundary Energy, the Early Works Agreement is more than a preliminary contract. He described it as the first step in building a long-term partnership between the two companies. Foster said the company is excited to work with Ausgold to develop a power system that will support the mine throughout its operational life.
He also noted that the hybrid energy solution will provide the reliable electricity needed for continuous production while creating lasting value for the project. The combination of gas generation, solar energy, and battery storage is designed to balance reliability with improved energy efficiency, helping the mining operation reduce emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered systems.
The agreement reflects the growing trend of mining companies adopting hybrid renewable energy systems to lower operating costs, improve energy security, and reduce their environmental impact. As more mining projects seek cleaner and more resilient power solutions, partnerships such as this highlight the increasing role of integrated renewable energy technologies in supporting resource development.
