APECO Signs EPC And O&M Contract For 8.77 MW Solar Project At Souk Sharq In Kuwait

Alternative Energy Projects Co. (AEPC) has signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) as well as Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract with United Real Estate Company (URC), through its subsidiary Marasi United, to develop an 8.77 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar power system at Souk Sharq in Kuwait. The project will be installed across rooftop and carport areas at the Sharq Waterfront, one of the country’s leading commercial destinations.

The solar installation represents a significant step toward expanding renewable energy adoption in Kuwait’s commercial real estate sector. By integrating clean energy into a major retail and waterfront complex, the project is expected to reduce reliance on conventional electricity while supporting the country’s long-term sustainability goals.

According to the project details, the solar system is expected to avoid approximately 189,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions over its operational lifetime. This environmental benefit is comparable to the impact of around 600,000 mature trees or planting more than 2.3 million new trees. The facility is also projected to generate enough renewable electricity each year to meet the annual power consumption of approximately 110 homes.

The development is backed by a 15-year investment agreement and aligns with the objectives of Kuwait’s New Kuwait Vision 2035. The national strategy aims to increase the contribution of renewable energy to 15% of the country’s energy mix by 2030.

In addition to producing clean electricity, the project is expected to contribute to Kuwait’s broader energy transition by diversifying energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and improving environmental sustainability. The initiative also highlights the growing role of solar energy in commercial infrastructure and demonstrates increasing investment in renewable energy projects across the region.
