ENGIE Achieves Financial Closure For 250 MW Khaba Solar Project In Rajasthan

ENGIE has achieved financial closure for its 250 MW Khaba Solar Project in Barmer, Rajasthan, marking another significant milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio in India. The project is being developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE, and represents the company’s continued commitment to supporting India’s clean energy transition.

The Khaba Solar Project is expected to generate around 650 GWh of clean electricity every year once it becomes operational. The renewable power produced by the facility is also expected to help avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions annually, contributing to India’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the share of renewable energy in its power mix.

In addition to supplying clean electricity, the project is expected to deliver economic and social benefits to the surrounding region. During the construction phase, it is anticipated to create employment opportunities for local communities, supporting regional economic development in Rajasthan. ENGIE stated that around 80% of these employment opportunities are expected to be filled by people from nearby communities, reflecting the company’s focus on local participation and inclusive growth.

The project has secured financing from leading global financial institutions, highlighting continued investor confidence in ENGIE’s project execution capabilities and India’s expanding renewable energy sector. The successful financial closure enables the project to move into the next phase of development, with construction scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2026.

Commenting on the development, Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager India and Managing Director Renewables & Batteries Southeast Asia at ENGIE, said that India’s energy transition will depend on the successful delivery of high-quality renewable infrastructure at scale. He noted that the financial closure of the Khaba Solar Project demonstrates ENGIE’s confidence in India’s long-term renewable energy growth and reflects the company’s commitment to execution excellence and operational reliability.
