Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), has commenced construction of the 239 MWp Luna Solar Power Plant in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The project, which recently broke ground, will include a 65 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), marking Aboitiz Renewables’ first integrated renewable energy and energy storage project on Negros Island. The Luna Solar Power Plant is expected to become fully operational by 2028.
Once commissioned, the project will increase Aboitiz Renewables’ solar capacity in Negros Occidental to 471 MWp, following the company’s 173 MWp Calatrava Solar Power Plant and 59 MWp SacaSun solar facility.
According to the company, the project is being developed in coordination with local government units and host communities. The location was selected based on the region’s solar resource potential and existing renewable energy development.
Aboitiz Renewables currently operates 45 renewable energy facilities across the Philippines, comprising solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and energy storage assets. The company also has a renewable energy development pipeline exceeding 1,800 MW, covering solar, hydro and wind projects.
