The Indian stock market recorded a positive session on August 20, 2026, with benchmark indices gaining amid improved investor sentiment. The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.82% to 77,537.72 points, while the Nifty 50 advanced 0.55% to close at 24,211.60 points.
Green energy, renewable energy and industrial stocks witnessed mixed trading activity, with several counters posting strong gains. Juniper Green Energy emerged as the day’s standout performer, rising 7.54% on the BSE to Rs 272.40 and 5.45% on the NSE to Rs 253.71. Kabra Extrusion also attracted strong buying interest, gaining 5.66% on the BSE to Rs 529.50 and 5.87% on the NSE to Rs 530.20.
Praj Industries was another notable gainer, advancing more than 5% on both exchanges to settle around Rs 358.00. The company’s performance added to the strength seen among stocks linked to clean technology and industrial solutions.
Major engineering and energy companies also traded largely higher. Larsen & Toubro gained more than 0.70% on the NSE, closing at Rs 4,070.00. Reliance Industries remained broadly steady at Rs 1,311.00 on the NSE, while gaining 0.62% on the BSE to Rs 1,315.55. Adani Green Energy advanced more than 0.50% on both exchanges, reaching Rs 1,299.90 on the NSE.
Other power and energy companies, including Exide Industries and JSW Energy, recorded modest gains. NTPC Green Energy and Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy remained largely unchanged during the session.
However, some renewable energy stocks faced selling pressure. Olectra Greentech declined 1.17% on the BSE to Rs 1,290.00 and 0.83% on the NSE to Rs 1,294.80. Borosil Renewables fell more than 1% on both exchanges to around Rs 544.00, while Tata Power declined about 0.96% on the NSE to Rs 375.25. Indian Oil Corporation also slipped nearly 0.48%.
Overall, the session reflected a positive market environment, supported by benchmark gains and strong stock-specific buying in selected green energy and industrial companies.
