L&T Secures Order to Develop 6 GWh of BESS Projects in the Middle East

The Renewables business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order from a leading client in the Middle East to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined storage capacity of 6 GWh.

The scope of the order includes the development of the battery storage facilities as well as associated grid interconnection infrastructure, including pooling substations and underground cables.

Each project will feature a four-hour BESS system designed to store and dispatch electricity to support grid stability and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy into the power system.

The projects will enable energy shifting by storing surplus renewable electricity generated during periods of lower demand and supplying it during peak demand hours. The BESS installations will incorporate liquid cooling technology, which is expected to support higher power density, improved safety and longer operational life.

The combined 6 GWh capacity represents a significant addition to the Middle East’s energy storage infrastructure and is expected to support ongoing grid modernisation and renewable energy integration across the region.

The projects will involve stringent requirements related to plant performance, workforce mobilisation, safety, quality and project execution timelines.

L&T said the order reflects continued client confidence in its engineering and project management capabilities and strengthens its position in the rapidly expanding global energy storage and renewable energy EPC market.
