Sungrow has launched a new energy storage manufacturing facility in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, marking a major step in the company’s efforts to expand localized clean energy manufacturing and strengthen its presence across the Middle East and Africa.
The facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of 10 GWh, with operations expected to commence in June 2027. The initial output from the plant will support the Sustainable Energy Valley project in Egypt’s Minya Governorate, a development jointly backed by the Egyptian government and Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec.
As part of the project, Sungrow will supply 4 GWh of energy storage systems, supporting the integration of renewable power and contributing to the expansion of Egypt’s clean energy infrastructure.
The new manufacturing facility builds on Sungrow’s established presence in the Egyptian renewable energy market. The company recently supported the commissioning of the Abydos Phase II solar-plus-storage project in Aswan Governorate, supplying 1.2 GW of photovoltaic capacity and 720 MWh of energy storage.
Once fully operational, Abydos Phase II is expected to become Africa’s largest single-site integrated solar-plus-storage project, highlighting the growing role of large-scale renewable energy and storage systems in Egypt’s energy transition.
Commenting on the manufacturing expansion, Thompson Meng, Vice President of Sungrow, said localized production would improve delivery efficiency and enable faster support for renewable energy projects across the Middle East and Africa.
Meng said Sungrow’s localization strategy extends beyond establishing manufacturing capacity, with the company also focusing on collaboration with local businesses and stakeholders, strengthening domestic supply chains, developing local talent and sharing renewable energy expertise and technologies.
The company’s investment comes as Egypt continues to expand its renewable energy capacity and energy storage infrastructure, with large-scale solar, wind and storage projects playing an increasingly important role in the country’s long-term clean energy strategy.
