FTC Solar, Inc. has commenced shipments of its solar tracker systems for the Fraser Coast solar project in Queensland, Australia, a 330 MW solar and 180 MW battery energy storage project being developed by Global Power Generation (GPG), the power generation subsidiary of Naturgy.
Located in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland, the hybrid renewable energy project is expected to commence operations in 2028. It represents Naturgy’s largest renewable energy project in Australia and GPG’s second hybrid solar and battery storage project in the country.
FTC Solar is supplying its 1P terrain-following tracker solution for the project. According to the company, the tracker design is intended to adapt to natural site contours while reducing the requirement for civil works, foundation depth, material use and installation time.
GPG Australia Construction Director David Santo Tomás said the tracker solution helped advance the project through a highly constructable design, reducing civil work requirements while delivering time and cost savings during installation.
The project received notice to proceed during the second quarter of 2026, following a revision and finalisation of its development timeline. FTC Solar had initially announced the project award in March 2025, when tracker production was expected to begin in mid-2025. Production and shipments are now underway.
The aggregate value of the Fraser Coast project was added to FTC Solar’s backlog in 2025.
GPG currently has 1.3 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation across Australia, with another 0.5 GW under construction and a 2 GW development pipeline. The Fraser Coast project is expected to further expand the company’s renewable energy footprint while supporting Queensland and Australia’s broader energy transition.
