Arevon Energy, Inc. has announced significant construction progress at its 250 MW/1,000 MWh Cormorant Energy Storage Project in Daly City, California. The battery energy storage system (BESS) is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027 and will be capable of supplying electricity to approximately 321,000 homes for up to four hours during periods of peak demand.
The project is being developed, owned, and operated by Arevon in partnership with Primoris Services Corporation’s Renewables group. Cormorant will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology and is expected to employ approximately 175 workers at peak construction.
The facility is designed to store electricity during periods of lower demand and dispatch it when demand is higher, supporting grid reliability in California. Over its operating life, the project is expected to generate more than $73 million in property tax revenue for schools, infrastructure improvements, and public services.
Arevon also estimates that Cormorant will save more than 4.2 billion gallons of water and avoid approximately 174,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Arevon announced the start of construction in March 2026. To mark the project’s construction progress, the company hosted an event attended by project partners, state and local officials, labor and business leaders, and community representatives.

Molly Sterkel, a Director in the Energy Division of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), said the project demonstrates progress toward a reliable and increasingly clean electric grid. According to Sterkel, the CPUC expects more than 20 GW of new clean energy resources to come online by 2032 to meet reliability requirements, with battery storage playing a key role as solar generation declines while electricity demand remains high.
Daly City Mayor Glenn Sylvester said the project would strengthen the local electric grid, create jobs, generate long-term revenue for public services, and support California’s clean energy transition.
Cormorant operates under a long-term offtake agreement with MCE, an electricity provider serving more than 1.8 million residents and businesses across Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties. The project was initially planned at 188 MW/752 MWh before being expanded to 250 MW/1,000 MWh, with MCE contracting for the additional capacity.
“MCE and Arevon have partnered on the Cormorant Energy Storage Project to provide clean, reliable electricity when it’s needed most,” said Vicken Kasarjian, MCE’s Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer. He added that more than $500,000 will be distributed through Arevon’s contract with MCE to support local community programs.
Arevon has also undertaken community engagement initiatives in Daly City and the wider Bayshore area during the project’s development and construction. The company has supported more than a dozen local and regional organizations through donations, sponsorships, scholarships, memberships, and volunteer activities.
The supported organizations include Bayshore Elementary School District, Jefferson Union High School District, Daly City Partnership, Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center, Bayshore Community Center, Pacific Islands Together, and John’s Closet.
The Cormorant project adds to California’s growing battery storage capacity, providing a means of shifting electricity from periods of abundant generation to periods of higher demand while supporting grid reliability.
