Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has completed 15 years of operations, highlighting its growing role in supporting India’s renewable energy transition and clean energy targets. The company marked its 15th Foundation Day with a Stakeholders’ Meet attended by senior government officials, policymakers, industry leaders and representatives from the renewable energy sector.
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and Power, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he said that SECI’s 15-year journey reflects India’s growing leadership in the global renewable energy transition. He noted that SECI has consistently contributed to the country’s clean energy vision and expressed confidence that the corporation will continue to play a central role in achieving India’s renewable energy objectives.
The event was also attended by Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Shri Mayank Tewari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Shri Vivek Jain, Chairman of INOXGFL Group, along with senior officials and stakeholders from the renewable energy sector.
Speaking at the occasion, Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of SECI, said the company remains focused on creating new opportunities in the renewable energy sector. He highlighted SECI’s efforts to work with stakeholders and adapt to changing market requirements through innovation. He also acknowledged the contribution of stakeholders to the company’s development over the past 15 years.
The Stakeholders’ Meet included two thematic sessions focusing on emerging areas of India’s energy transition. The first session, titled “Reimagining Industry through Green Molecules,” discussed the role of green hydrogen and its derivatives in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors. Discussions covered domestic production, emerging applications, policy support, infrastructure, technology and financing requirements for developing green molecule markets.
The second session, “The Changing Energy Landscape: Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets,” examined the expanding role of distributed renewable energy. Participants discussed consumer participation, integration of distributed energy resources and new market mechanisms, along with policy and regulatory frameworks required for wider adoption.
SECI reported that more than 41 GW of renewable energy generation capacity has been commissioned through third-party developers under its initiatives. The company has also signed power sale agreements for more than 67 GW with various distribution companies and consumers. Its activities have enabled cumulative market investments of around ₹3.6 lakh crore.
Alongside its role in facilitating third-party renewable energy projects, SECI is expanding its own project portfolio and increasing its involvement in energy storage, green hydrogen and related clean energy areas.
SECI was incorporated on September 20, 2011, as a dedicated implementing agency for the National Solar Mission. Over the years, the Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under MNRE has expanded its mandate beyond solar energy to cover the broader renewable energy ecosystem.
