Cybrid Technologies Inc. (Cybrid) and TCL Solar Renewable Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (TCL Solar) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement on light-conversion encapsulant film. The companies will establish priority procurement and supply arrangements and deepen cooperation on the film’s use in high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) modules. Through joint innovation in materials and modules, they aim to improve product reliability, strengthen product differentiation and expand their presence in global markets.

The value of high-efficiency PV modules depends on both their initial conversion efficiency and their ability to maintain performance over time. Ultraviolet-induced degradation is a shared concern for materials and module manufacturers. Cybrid’s Raybo® light-conversion encapsulant film converts part of the ultraviolet light into visible light that solar cells can use effectively. This helps reduce the impact of ultraviolet light on module performance, supporting long-term reliability and energy yield.
Translating a material’s technical advantages into benefits at module level requires careful consideration of cell characteristics, encapsulation processes and operating conditions. The cooperation will focus on back-contact (BC) modules while also advancing applications in TOPCon modules, bringing materials development closer to module requirements. The companies will draw on their global resources to support product adoption and promotion, addressing demand for efficient, reliable modules across different markets.
The partnership builds on longstanding business cooperation and complementary technical expertise. With an adhesives-based materials technology platform, Cybrid continues to expand the applications of functional polymer materials and has established long-term materials business relationships with TCL in photovoltaics, displays and home appliances. Cybrid has developed a comprehensive global patent portfolio for Raybo® light-conversion encapsulant film, with clearly established ownership of patent rights, helping customers reduce intellectual property compliance risks when adopting and using the product.

TCL Solar has extensive expertise in silicon materials and continues to develop its capabilities across wafers, cells and modules, supported by research, manufacturing and global service operations. With its dual-native technology architecture and a portfolio of more than 1,600 patents, TCL Solar is among the few companies in the industry to have achieved stable mass production of BC modules. Its expertise in BC cells and modules complements Cybrid’s research and development capabilities in light-conversion encapsulant film. The companies will pursue joint innovation while respecting each other’s intellectual property rights.
Alongside PV applications, the companies intend to extend their cooperation into research on light-conversion materials and a broader range of uses. They plan to jointly initiate a global research centre for light-conversion materials and invite research institutes and universities worldwide to participate. Research will explore applications in emerging PV technologies such as perovskites, assess suitability for PV modules operating in extreme environments, and investigate potential uses in displays, medical imaging, home decoration and agriculture. This work is intended to provide a research foundation for materials cooperation beyond photovoltaics.

“At Cybrid, we focus on solving customer problems through materials innovation and helping customers differentiate their products,” said Wu Xiaoping, Chairman and Chief Innovation Officer of Cybrid. “Through this cooperation with TCL Solar, we aim to bring together materials R&D, module technology, supply coordination and global market resources to jointly develop products, expand markets and enable both companies to earn fair returns from innovation. The value of light-conversion materials extends beyond photovoltaics. We look forward to bringing together research expertise from around the world through open collaboration, exploring new applications while respecting intellectual property rights, and turning our technical expertise into a foundation for long-term growth.”

“Materials innovation is fundamental to improving PV module performance,” said Ju Xia, Vice President and General Manager of the Cell and Module Business Group at TCL Solar. “Deepening our strategic cooperation with Cybrid is an important step in extending TCL Solar’s dual-native technology architecture into materials across the value chain. With BC modules as the primary application, we will bring light-conversion encapsulant film and cell technologies into closer alignment to further improve the value of high-efficiency modules throughout their life cycle. Together, we aim to deliver more reliable PV solutions with stronger economic returns for customers worldwide and help move the industry towards competition based on technological value.”
The agreement provides a foundation for closer industrial collaboration and long-term technical cooperation.
