NTPC Limited has invited competitive bids for the development of a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the NTPC Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The tender has been issued under IFB No. CS-9575-171C-9 and Tender ID 2026_NTPC_112216_1.
The project will be executed under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package. The selected contractor will be responsible for the complete supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of the battery energy storage system with the existing thermal power plant facilities.
The scope of work includes the supply and installation of battery systems along with the Battery Management System (BMS), Energy Management System (EMS), Power Conversion System (PCS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), auxiliary power systems, communication infrastructure, and fire detection and protection systems. The contractor will also be responsible for ensuring proper integration of the BESS with the existing plant infrastructure.
In addition to the EPC work, the selected bidder will provide a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for 11 years after successful completion of the performance guarantee test. The long-term maintenance requirement is intended to support reliable operation and performance of the storage system throughout the contracted period.
The tender is open to eligible Class-I and Class-II local suppliers and will follow a single-stage, two-envelope bidding process. The first envelope will contain the techno-commercial bid, while the second will contain the price bid.
NTPC issued the invitation for bids and commenced tender sales on September 26, 2026. The pre-bid conference and deadline for submission of queries are scheduled for October 5, 2026. Bidders must submit their offers by October 12, 2026, up to 13:00 hours IST. The techno-commercial bids will be opened on the same day at 15:30 hours IST.
The tender requires participating bidders to submit an Earnest Money Deposit of ₹10 crore. The bid security can be submitted through acceptable electronic or physical modes, while bank guarantees are required to be processed as electronic bank guarantees through the National e-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) platform.
The financial eligibility criteria require bidders to have an average annual turnover of at least ₹414 crore during the preceding three financial years, along with the required positive net worth. For bidders participating through collaborator or associate arrangements, the collaborator or associate must have an average annual turnover of at least ₹41.40 crore.
Bids must be submitted through NTPC’s GePNIC portal using a Class-3 Digital Signature Certificate. Additional restrictions apply to entities from countries sharing a land border with India, which must obtain prior registration with the competent authorities wherever applicable.
NTPC has also reserved the right to accept or reject bids and cancel the tender process at any stage in accordance with the bidding conditions.
