Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), marked its 15th Foundation Day with a Stakeholders’ Meet held on September 21, 2026, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
SECI was incorporated on September 20, 2011, and initially served as the dedicated implementing agency for the National Solar Mission. Over the past 15 years, the organisation has expanded its role across the renewable energy sector, supporting the development of solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen and other clean energy initiatives.
The event was attended by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Power, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Naik highlighted SECI’s journey and its contribution to India’s growing role in the global clean energy transition. He also expressed confidence in SECI’s continued role in supporting the country’s renewable energy ambitions.
Other senior dignitaries at the event included Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA); Shri Mayank Tewari, Additional Secretary, MNRE; and Shri Vivek Jain, Chairman of INOXGFL Group.
Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of SECI, highlighted the organisation’s focus on responding to changing market requirements and creating new opportunities in the renewable energy sector. He also emphasised the importance of close engagement with stakeholders as India’s energy system continues to evolve.
The Stakeholders’ Meet included two thematic sessions covering emerging areas of the energy transition. The first session, titled “Reimagining Industry through Green Molecules,” focused on green hydrogen and its derivatives as potential solutions for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors. Discussions covered domestic production, policy support, infrastructure development and financing requirements for building scalable green molecule markets in India.
The second session, “The Changing Energy Landscape: Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets,” examined the growing role of distributed renewable energy. The discussions addressed consumer participation, integration of different energy resources and the regulatory frameworks required to support new energy markets.
Over its 15-year journey, SECI has commissioned more than 41 GW of renewable energy generation capacity through third-party developers. The organisation has also signed power sale agreements exceeding 67 GW with power distribution companies and consumers.
According to SECI, its activities have enabled investments of approximately ₹3.6 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector. Going forward, the organisation is expanding its own project portfolio while increasing its focus on energy storage, green hydrogen and other emerging areas of the renewable energy ecosystem.
