Stonepeak, an alternative investment firm focused on infrastructure and real assets, has announced an equity investment in AMPYR Distributed Energy (ADE), a distributed energy infrastructure platform established in 2024 in partnership with AGP.
AGP will retain an interest in ADE following the transaction, which is expected to close in the coming days.
ADE develops, finances, owns, and operates onsite renewable energy infrastructure for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers across the UK and Europe. The company currently has a development pipeline exceeding 1 GW and has contracted 250 MW of renewable energy projects across 200 sites to date.
Stonepeak’s investment is expected to provide ADE with additional capital and infrastructure expertise to launch new projects and accelerate development across its operating markets.
Hajir Naghdy, Senior Managing Director at Stonepeak, said the investment will support ADE’s expansion as European businesses increasingly seek secure distributed energy sources to manage energy costs, strengthen supply security, and decarbonise their operations.
John Behan, CEO of AMPYR Distributed Energy, said the investment would provide the company with additional resources and expertise to accelerate its project pipeline and expand its distributed renewable energy platform.
Focus on Distributed Energy Infrastructure
ADE focuses on onsite renewable energy infrastructure for C&I customers, enabling businesses to access renewable electricity while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
The company said demand for distributed energy is increasing across Europe as businesses seek greater control over energy costs, supply and emissions.
Brad Hopkins, Partner and Co-Head of Energy at AGP, said Stonepeak’s investment supports ADE’s next phase of growth and reflects the potential for further expansion of distributed energy infrastructure across the UK and Europe.
Following the investment, Stonepeak and AGP will continue to support ADE as it expands its project development activities and scales its distributed energy portfolio.
Ashurst Perkins Coie served as legal counsel to Stonepeak, while Corrs Chambers Westgarth advised AGP. Stifel acted as the sole financial advisor to ADE.
