Nordic solar developer and independent power producer Alight has acquired a portfolio of 40 large-scale solar projects in southern Sweden from Soltech Energy Solutions, with a combined planned solar capacity of approximately 2 GW.
The portfolio also includes options for co-located battery energy storage at most of the project sites. Following the acquisition, Alight’s solar and storage development pipeline in the Nordic region has increased to more than 5 GW.
The transaction, involving the utility-scale development portfolio of Soltech Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Soltech Energy Sweden, has been completed following approval from Sweden’s Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP).
The projects are located across Sweden’s SE3 and SE4 electricity price areas, covering parts of southern Sweden.
Alight will take responsibility for the continued development of the projects, including permitting and grid connection processes, with the objective of bringing them to the ready-to-build stage.
The projects are planned to be developed under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Under this model, Alight will build, own and operate the solar parks and sell the generated electricity to commercial and industrial customers at fixed, long-term prices.
Warren Campbell, CEO of Alight, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s position in the Nordic solar market and provides additional scale for its continued expansion in Sweden. He added that the portfolio’s secured land, ongoing permitting processes and potential for battery storage could accelerate the projects toward the ready-to-build stage compared with greenfield development.
Christoffer Caesar, CEO of Soltech Energy Solutions, said the company had developed the portfolio over several years, taking the projects from early-stage development to their current level of maturity. He said the projects are now entering a phase where a long-term investor can take them toward investment decisions and construction.
The acquisition adds to Alight’s existing solar portfolio in the Nordic region. The company recently inaugurated the 215 MWp Lidsø Solar Park in Denmark and the 101 MWp Eurajoki Solar Park in Finland, developed in partnership with Autoliv.
In 2024, Alight also acquired the 11 MW Ramsjöholm Solar Park in Falkenberg, Sweden, which was developed and commissioned by Soltech.
