E.ON Completes Acquisition Of UK Energy Supplier OVO Following Regulatory Approval, Strengthening Its Retail Market Presence

German energy company E.ON has completed its acquisition of UK-based energy supplier OVO following approval from the United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The transaction, initially announced in May 2026, marks a significant step in E.ON’s strategy to strengthen its position in the British energy retail market.

The acquisition expands E.ON’s presence in the United Kingdom, which represents one of Europe’s major energy markets and the company’s second-largest retail market. The transaction is expected to enhance E.ON’s operational scale, customer service capabilities and ability to introduce innovative energy solutions.

Following completion of the acquisition, OVO will be fully integrated into E.ON’s operations. The integration is intended to create opportunities for operational efficiencies, technology development and the wider deployment of customer-focused energy products and services.

According to E.ON, the increased scale of its UK retail operations will enable the company to accelerate the development of intelligent and flexible energy solutions in a rapidly evolving energy market. The company also expects to leverage these innovations across its broader European business.

The acquisition comes as European energy suppliers increasingly focus on digitalisation, customer flexibility and energy efficiency to respond to changing consumer expectations and the transition towards cleaner energy systems.

E.ON aims to strengthen its ability to offer solutions that help customers manage electricity consumption more efficiently, reduce energy expenses and participate in the energy transition.

Commenting on the acquisition, Marc Spieker, Chief Operating Officer Commercial at E.ON, described the transaction as an important milestone for the company’s UK retail operations.

He highlighted that combining greater operational scale with digital capabilities and innovation would enable E.ON to introduce intelligent and flexible energy solutions more quickly, helping customers reduce energy costs while contributing to the broader energy transition.

The companies have agreed not to disclose the financial terms of the transaction, including the acquisition price.

The completed acquisition reinforces E.ON’s focus on expanding its customer solutions business and strengthening its competitive position in the European energy retail sector.

By integrating OVO into its existing operations, E.ON aims to improve service delivery, accelerate innovation and support the adoption of more flexible and cost-efficient energy solutions across the United Kingdom and other European markets.
