Green Energy Stocks Face Sharp Sell-Off As Sensex Falls 1.44% And Nifty Drops 1.71% (08 October 2026)

The green energy sector witnessed broad-based selling pressure during today’s trading session, in line with a sharp decline across the Indian equity market. The S&P BSE SENSEX fell 1.44% to close at 71,593.24, while the NIFTY 50 declined 1.71% to finish at 22,216.00. The weak market sentiment led to losses across renewable energy, power, battery, and electric mobility stocks.

Adani Green Energy recorded the steepest decline among major renewable energy companies. The stock fell more than 7.5% on the NSE to ₹1,240.50, while it declined to ₹1,241.00 on the BSE. Inox Wind also faced strong selling pressure, falling around 6.6% on the NSE to ₹62.70.

Other renewable energy counters also remained under pressure. Kabra Extrusion declined nearly 4.5% to ₹770.00, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy dropped 4.88% to ₹159.91. Borosil Renewables, Praj Industries, Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), and Websol Energy also recorded declines ranging between 1.6% and 4.2%.

Large power and diversified energy companies also followed the broader market trend. Reliance Industries fell 2.51% on the NSE to ₹1,177.40, while Tata Power declined 2.88% to ₹335.20. JSW Energy dropped 3.81% to ₹466.95, and Larsen & Toubro slipped 2.04% to ₹3,626.00.

Public sector energy companies also witnessed selling. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) declined 3.50% to ₹125.45, while GAIL fell 2.26% to ₹166.85.

Battery and electric mobility stocks recorded moderate losses. Exide Industries declined 1.81% to ₹395.65, while Amara Raja Energy & Mobility fell 1.76% to ₹720.35. Olectra Greentech dropped 3.82% to ₹1,042.70.

Despite the sector-wide weakness, NTPC Green Energy emerged as a notable exception. The stock gained 2.62% on the NSE to ₹90.83, making it one of the few green energy stocks to close higher. Juniper Green Energy remained largely flat on the NSE, gaining 0.02% to ₹280.65, although it declined 2.44% on the BSE.

The session reflected heightened caution among investors, with profit-taking and broader market weakness weighing on green transition stocks across renewable generation, equipment manufacturing, energy storage, and electric mobility segments.
