POWERCHINA has achieved full-capacity grid-connected power generation at the 96.9 MW Wayra Solar Project in Peru ahead of schedule on September 19, marking the completion and commissioning of the company’s first renewable energy project in the country.
Located in the Marcona District of Nasca Province, in the Ica Region of Peru, the solar project has an installed capacity of 96.9 MW. The facility comprises more than 136,000 photovoltaic modules and 2,345 single-axis solar tracking structures.
The project’s supporting infrastructure includes seven 33 kV collector lines, a 220 kV step-up substation and associated transmission lines to facilitate power evacuation and grid integration.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 250 million kWh of electricity annually. It is also projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 150,000 metric tons each year, contributing to Peru’s clean energy supply and low-carbon development goals.
The commissioning marks an expansion of POWERCHINA’s presence in Peru’s renewable energy sector and strengthens its involvement in the country’s energy transition. The company will continue to undertake project handover and related activities following commissioning.
The Wayra Solar Project represents a milestone in POWERCHINA’s renewable energy operations in Peru and is expected to support further cooperation between China and Peru in the development of clean energy infrastructure.
