Sunsure Energy has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Evonith Steel to supply 30 MWp of solar power to the steel manufacturer’s integrated facilities in Wardha, Maharashtra. The agreement is aimed at helping Evonith Steel incorporate renewable electricity into its industrial operations and reduce its dependence on conventional power sources. The supply is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with the solar capacity sourced from Sunsure Energy’s existing 120 MWp solar park in Dhule, Maharashtra.
The arrangement will enable Evonith Steel to access renewable energy without waiting for the development and construction of a new power generation facility. By utilizing capacity from an operational solar park, the agreement provides a faster route for the company to integrate clean electricity into its manufacturing processes.
Steel production is an energy-intensive industrial activity, making the adoption of renewable electricity an important step toward reducing emissions and improving environmental performance. Through this agreement, Evonith Steel aims to lower its reliance on conventional grid electricity while supporting its long-term sustainability objectives. The partnership also reflects the growing interest among industrial consumers in securing renewable power through long-term commercial agreements.
According to industry estimates, the solar power supplied under the agreement is expected to help avoid approximately 34,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually. This reduction could contribute to lowering the carbon intensity of Evonith Steel’s operations while supporting wider efforts to decarbonize India’s manufacturing sector.
Established in 2014, Sunsure Energy provides renewable energy solutions for utility-scale projects and commercial and industrial consumers. Its portfolio includes solar, wind, and battery energy storage technologies. Backed by a significant equity commitment from Partners Group, the company has an operating and contracted renewable energy capacity portfolio of 2.5 GW. It is also developing additional capacity as part of its long-term expansion plans toward 2030.
The agreement with Evonith Steel adds to Sunsure Energy’s growing portfolio of renewable power partnerships with industrial and manufacturing customers across India. Such arrangements allow companies to secure cleaner electricity while addressing their energy requirements.
Evonith Steel manufactures hot metal and high-quality flat steel products at its Wardha facility. The adoption of solar energy is expected to support its efforts to improve the environmental performance of its manufacturing operations.
As demand for steel continues to grow, renewable power purchase agreements are becoming an important option for energy-intensive industries seeking to balance production requirements with emissions reduction targets.
