Zetwerk Completes Power Transformer Installation in North Carolina, Strengthening Its Presence in US Energy Infrastructure

Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses Ltd., a technology-led manufacturing company operating across Energy, Precision and Capital Goods, along with its US subsidiary Unimacts, has announced the successful completion of the installation of a Zetwerk-manufactured power transformer in North Carolina, United States.

The installation marks a significant milestone for Zetwerk’s expanding energy business as the US witnesses growing electricity demand, particularly from artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and data centers, alongside ongoing efforts to modernize its aging power grid.

Zetwerk’s Energy vertical recorded revenue of ₹6,507.57 crore in FY2026, representing a year-on-year growth of 86.90% and contributing 69.42% of the company’s Manufacturing revenue.

The company highlighted that transformer supply constraints have emerged as a major challenge for grid expansion projects, with manufacturing lead times in the US averaging 36 to 42 months. These delays have created bottlenecks for utilities, developers and energy infrastructure companies seeking to expand transmission and distribution capacity.

To address these challenges, Zetwerk has adopted a manufacturing model that coordinates production across countries through an integrated supplier network and vertically integrated capabilities. According to the company, this approach has enabled power transformer delivery timelines of 12 to 15 months for the US market, compared with industry averages of 36 to 42 months in the US and 30 to 36 months in India during FY2026.

In FY2026, Zetwerk secured power transformer orders worth ₹2,032.25 crore, reflecting demand for its transformer manufacturing capabilities.

Commenting on the development, Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Zetwerk, said, “As electricity demand grows, utilities, developers and energy infrastructure companies need reliable access to critical power equipment. Transformer supply has struggled to keep pace, delaying projects that depend on timely deliveries. At Zetwerk and Unimacts, we are working to help close this gap by coordinating production across countries. By strengthening our coordination across the transformer supply chain, we aim to make essential equipment more accessible and help customers expand and strengthen the US power grid.”

Through its vertically integrated manufacturing operations, Zetwerk and Unimacts aim to provide US customers with shorter delivery timelines and greater control over critical transformer components. The company manages key elements of the value chain, including cold-rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) steel laminations, cores, core and coil assemblies, and tanks, while maintaining strategic relationships with original equipment manufacturers for components requiring longer procurement timelines.

The company’s transformer portfolio covers six categories, including medium-voltage pad-mounted, dry-type, inverter-duty and power transformers, with capabilities extending up to 500 MVA and 765 kV. These products are manufactured to IEEE C57 standards.

Zetwerk reported international revenue of more than ₹2,775 crore in FY2026, supported by its US business presence, including seven owned facilities in the country. At the group level, the company reported approximately ₹15,913 crore in revenue and operates 26 manufacturing facilities.

Unimacts has previously supported utility-scale solar projects across the US by manufacturing structural components such as piles and torque tubes. With the addition of transformer manufacturing capabilities, Zetwerk and Unimacts are expanding their involvement in energy infrastructure beyond solar project components to equipment essential for power transmission and distribution.

The North Carolina installation represents another step in Zetwerk’s efforts to strengthen its position in the US energy infrastructure market as utilities and developers seek additional equipment supply options to support grid expansion and modernization.
