ENGIE Commissions 450 MW Solar Projects In Rajasthan And Gujarat, Expands India Portfolio To 2 GW

ENGIE has commissioned two large-scale solar power projects with a combined capacity of 450 MW in India, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio in the country. The projects include a 250 MW solar power plant at Khaba in Rajasthan and a 200 MW solar project at Khavda in Gujarat. Both projects are now fully operational and will contribute to India’s growing renewable energy generation capacity.

The commissioning of these projects marks another milestone in ENGIE’s expansion in India’s renewable energy sector. The company stated that the projects demonstrate its ability to develop and deliver large-scale renewable energy assets while supporting local communities and regional economic development. Approximately 80% of the workforce employed during the construction of the two projects was hired locally.

The 250 MW Khaba solar project is located in Barmer district of Rajasthan and was developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE. The project is expected to generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity annually. It will also help avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, contributing to India’s efforts to reduce emissions through clean energy generation.

The second project, a 200 MW solar photovoltaic power plant, is located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. It was developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited. The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the supply of electricity. According to the company, the plant is expected to generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually.

The latest commissioning comes as ENGIE continues to expand its presence in India’s renewable energy market through solar, battery energy storage and hybrid projects. In November 2025, the company secured its first battery energy storage project in India, with a capacity of 280 MW / 560 MWh. In January 2026, it also secured a hybrid project combining 200 MW of solar capacity with a 100 MW / 600 MWh battery energy storage system.

With approximately 2 GW of renewable energy capacity either operational or under construction in India, ENGIE is focusing on expanding its portfolio through a combination of renewable generation and energy storage solutions. The company is also exploring opportunities in corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and advanced energy management solutions to support changing electricity market requirements.

Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager India and Managing Director Renewables and Batteries SEA at ENGIE, said the commissioning of the Khaba and Khavda projects represents an important milestone for the company. He highlighted project execution, operational discipline and collaboration with local communities as key factors in delivering the developments.

Pedro Vasconcelos, Executive Vice President for Renewable and Flexible Power at ENGIE, said India remains an important growth market for the group. He added that combining renewable generation with energy management and flexibility solutions will create further opportunities for the company while supporting India’s energy transition.
