“The Sun Is Africa’s Gold”: Jinko Solar’s Adama Cissé on West Africa’s Solar Growth, Technology and Opportunities

West Africa’s solar PV market is entering a new phase of growth, driven by rising electricity demand, expanding utility-scale projects and the need for reliable, cost-effective renewable energy solutions. However, diverse regulatory frameworks, price sensitivity and challenging climatic conditions continue to shape technology adoption across the region.

In this interview Adama Cissé, West Africa Sales Manager at Jinko Solar, shares her perspectives on the evolving solar landscape, emerging market opportunities and the company’s growing regional presence. He discusses how Jinko Solar’s Tiger Neo 3.0 technology is addressing performance and long-term value requirements, highlights key project milestones across West Africa, and explains the importance of local partnerships, technical awareness and customer trust in accelerating solar adoption.

How do you assess the evolution of the solar PV market across West Africa, and what key trends, opportunities, and challenges are shaping demand for solar technology over the coming years?

I often say that the sun is Africa’s gold, yet we have only begun to unlock its true value. Solar energy is no longer simply an environmental ambition; it is becoming an economic and social necessity, particularly in a region where access to reliable and affordable electricity remains a challenge for many communities and businesses.

West Africa is a promising but complex market, with diverse regulatory frameworks, different levels of market maturity, and strong price sensitivity. One of our greatest challenges, and opportunities, is educating customers on the importance of choosing the right technology, looking beyond initial cost to long-term performance and value.

For me, what makes this market particularly exciting is that we are not simply witnessing its transformation; we are actively contributing to it.

With major solar projects emerging across Senegal, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire, and other West African markets, how is Jinko Solar expanding its regional footprint and supporting the growing demand for reliable, high-performance PV modules?

As one of the world’s leading PV manufacturers, Jinko Solar has surpassed 5.2 GW in cumulative module shipments across Africa, reflecting the confidence customers place in our technology.

In West Africa, we have witnessed a remarkable evolution. Today, Jinko Solar has become a preferred choice for many customers seeking quality, reliability, and long-term performance. This recognition reflects years of consistent delivery, successful projects, and trusted relationships.

Beyond our global manufacturing capabilities, we bring regional expertise and dedicated technical and commercial support, giving developers, EPC contractors, and investors the confidence to move forward with their solar projects.

In a highly price-competitive market like West Africa, how does Jinko Solar’s Tiger Neo 3.0 technology differentiate itself in terms of energy yield, reliability, and long-term value, particularly under the region’s demanding climatic conditions?

For investors and developers, the real value of a solar power plant lies in how much electricity it generates throughout its lifetime and at what cost.

Tiger Neo 3.0 brings this value through higher efficiency, strong energy yield, and improved performance under high temperatures, particularly important in West Africa. Its low temperature coefficient helps limit power losses during hot conditions, while its low degradation supports reliable production over time.

Simply put, more electricity from the same available space can mean better revenue potential and a lower cost of energy. Our goal is to help customers make technology choices that improve both the performance and long-term economic value of their investments.

As Jinko Solar celebrates its 20th anniversary, how does its project track record reflect the company’s contribution to solar development and the trust built with partners across West Africa?

As Jinko Solar celebrates 20 years of innovation, it is remarkable to see how far West Africa’s solar industry has evolved, from its early utility-scale projects to today’s increasingly ambitious developments.

We are proud to have contributed to this journey through projects such as Kael and Kahone in Senegal, and more recently the 52 MWp Ferké Solar plant in Côte d’Ivoire, commissioned in 2026, with an expected annual production of approximately 90 GWh. Our involvement in ongoing developments in Mauritania and Guinea further reflects our regional commitment.

In some West African markets, nearly one in every two utility-scale solar plants features Jinko Solar modules. Beyond these achievements, what matters most is the trust built through years of collaboration, consistent quality, and reliable delivery.

How is Jinko Solar leveraging its local partnerships and distribution network to expand access to its latest Tiger Neo 3.0 technology and accelerate solar PV adoption across West Africa?

In West Africa, trust is not built overnight. It is earned through consistent quality, technical education, and strong relationships with customers and partners.

With Tiger Neo 3.0, our focus is not only on introducing advanced technology, but also on helping customers understand its benefits and make informed choices for their projects.

Through our collaboration with distributors, EPC contractors, and developers, we continue to strengthen product awareness, technical support, and access to reliable PV solutions.

For us, lasting partnerships mean growing together. We want our partners to see Jinko Solar not simply as a module supplier, but as a reliable technology partner committed to their success and to the sustainable development of West Africa’s solar industry.
