VinEnergo Commissions Rooftop Solar And BESS Project To Supply Green Power To EV And Battery Factories In Vietnam

VinEnergo has commissioned a rooftop solar power system integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh, Vietnam. The project will supply clean electricity to the VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing plant, the VinES battery manufacturing facility and the VG battery manufacturing joint venture.

The project marks VinEnergo’s first operational renewable energy installation under the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism. It is designed to support the electricity requirements of major industrial facilities while reducing dependence on conventional grid power.

The initial beneficiaries include Future Production, Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, which owns and operates the VinFast electric car and motorcycle manufacturing plant in Ha Tinh, and VinES Ha Tinh Energy Solutions Joint Stock Company, the operator of the VinES battery manufacturing facility. The rooftop solar installation will also supply electricity to the VG joint venture battery factory within the same electric vehicle and battery manufacturing complex.

According to company estimates, the integrated solar and storage system is expected to generate approximately 39 million kWh of clean electricity during its first year of operation. The project is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 25,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to the estimated annual carbon absorption of over 1.13 million trees.

The transition to renewable electricity is also expected to ease pressure on the regional power grid, improve energy self-sufficiency for participating factories and deliver annual cost savings of nearly VND 3.5 billion.

The successful commissioning and initial stable supply to the three industrial facilities provide a foundation for VinEnergo to expand its green energy activities in subsequent phases. The company aims to develop an integrated energy model combining renewable generation, large-scale battery storage, electricity distribution and retail infrastructure to support growing industrial demand in the Vung Ang Economic Zone.

Nguyen Huong Giang, Deputy General Director of VinEnergo, said the project represents an important step towards developing a comprehensive energy ecosystem covering renewable generation, storage, DPPA mechanisms and electricity distribution. She highlighted the company’s focus on applying Vietnamese-developed products, manufacturing capabilities and technology to address the energy requirements of industrial customers.

Beyond this project, VinEnergo is providing BESS solutions for several major projects of Hanoi Power Corporation and Northern Power Corporation, with a combined capacity exceeding 1.1 GWh.

Internationally, the company has announced a renewable energy project portfolio totalling 10 GW and is implementing its first projects in Asia and Europe. VinEnergo aims to expand its project portfolio to 100 GW within the next three years, positioning itself among the world’s leading renewable energy companies.
