Odisha has secured investment proposals worth ₹1,17,557 crore through 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The proposed investments are expected to support the development of 11,742 MW of clean energy capacity across solar, pumped storage, wind, hybrid renewable energy, battery energy storage and green hydrogen projects.
The agreements mark a significant step in Odisha’s efforts to strengthen its renewable energy sector, modernize its power infrastructure and attract private investment in emerging clean energy technologies. The proposed projects are also expected to support the state’s long-term objective of becoming a major renewable energy hub and power-exporting state.
As part of the investment agreements, the Energy Department of the Odisha Government signed MoUs with several private companies, including Hinduja Renewables Energy, Renew Green, Suzlon Renewable Development, Evergreen Renewables and Datta Power Infra, among others. These partnerships are expected to accelerate renewable energy development and support the expansion of clean power generation in the state.
In a separate development, GRIDCO Limited signed a collaborative MoU with the Centre for Mission on Energy Transition, anchored at MANIT Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited and IIT Bhubaneswar. The partnership will focus on power grid modernization, renewable energy integration, capacity building and clean energy innovation. It will also help address the technical challenges associated with integrating larger volumes of renewable energy into the electricity network.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi highlighted Odisha’s important role in India’s clean energy transition. He said the state has significant opportunities in floating solar, wind power, energy storage systems and green ammonia production, supported by its natural resources, industrial base and port infrastructure. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between central and state governments to accelerate clean energy development.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi outlined the state’s power sector vision up to 2047. The state aims to achieve a 74% share of non-fossil fuel sources in its total installed power capacity and become one of India’s top five power-exporting states. It also plans to meet at least 33% of industrial electricity consumption through competitively priced green power.
To support these ambitions, the government is prioritizing transmission infrastructure development. It has sanctioned ₹15,948 crore under the Mukhya Mantri Shakti Bikash Yojana to expand and modernize the state’s transmission network.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the reliability of Odisha’s electricity system, noting that the state successfully met a summer peak demand of approximately 6,242 MW without scheduled load shedding.
Under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022, the state is targeting 10.96 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. As of late September 2026, Odisha had installed 3,641.23 MW of renewable energy capacity. Major industry participants at the summit included NLC India, Adani Ports, Avaada, Greenko, ACME, Evren and Brookfield Renewables, reflecting growing industry interest in Odisha’s clean energy and power infrastructure development.
