NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, is planning to invite online international competitive bids for the supply of battery containers and grid-forming power conversion systems (PCS) for its proposed 10 GW/40 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The initiative is part of the company’s efforts to expand its energy storage portfolio and strengthen the integration of renewable energy into the power grid.
The proposed project will cover a total storage capacity of 10 GW/40 GWh across NGEL’s portfolio. The tender will invite eligible domestic and international suppliers to participate in the supply of key equipment required for the large-scale battery storage deployment. The scope of work includes the supply of lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based containerized battery energy storage systems and grid-forming power conversion systems.
In addition to equipment supply, the selected bidders will be responsible for supervising the erection, installation, and commissioning of the supplied systems at various project locations. The work will cover activities up to the PCS output terminals, ensuring that the battery systems and associated power conversion equipment are properly installed and commissioned.
NGEL has also included a long-term maintenance requirement as part of the proposed procurement. Selected vendors will be required to provide comprehensive service and maintenance support for a period of 15 years from the date of commissioning. This arrangement will be covered under a Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA), aimed at ensuring the reliable operation and performance of the battery storage systems over their operational life.
The company stated that the detailed Invitation for Bids (IFB) will be released shortly through the NTPC tender portal. The complete bidding documents will subsequently be made available on the ETS electronic tender portal. Interested companies and suppliers will be required to register on the ETS website to participate in the bidding process.
Bidders must also possess a valid Class III Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) issued by an Indian Certifying Authority. The digital signature requirement will also apply to foreign bidders under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, ensuring compliance with the electronic tendering process.
For additional information and updates regarding the procurement, interested stakeholders can contact the Contracts Services department at the NETRA Building in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, or visit the official website of NTPC Green Energy Limited.
The proposed 10 GW/40 GWh BESS procurement represents a major step towards expanding large-scale energy storage infrastructure. Battery storage systems can support renewable energy integration, improve grid flexibility, manage fluctuations in solar and wind generation, and provide power during periods of high demand. Through this procurement, NGEL aims to develop storage capabilities across its portfolio while establishing long-term operational and maintenance arrangements for the proposed installations.
