HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has received HE Frank Eggmann, Consul General of Switzerland to Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
At the start of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the Swiss Consul General and outlined DEWA’s pioneering and innovative projects and initiatives to achieve the vision of the wise leadership, which is the roadmap for DEWA’s ambitious initiatives and development projects for sustainable development. This supports DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation.
Al Tayer talked about the importance of increasing cooperation, and how Swiss energy and water companies can contribute to projects in Dubai. He also discussed the need to share best practices, experiences, and expertise in energy, water, and sustainability; to further develop these areas for mutual benefit.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA currently has an installed capacity of 11,700 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 470 million gallons of water per day. This supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. To achieve this, DEWA launched several renewable programmes and initiatives, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world. Using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, it will have a capacity of 5,000MW by 2030.
Al Tayer added that DEWA has attracted investments totalling around AED 40 billion through the IPP model, which strengthens public-private partnerships. Through this model, DEWA received the lowest global solar power prices five times in a row, making Dubai a global benchmark for them.
Eggmann expressed his interest in cooperating with DEWA on its pioneering projects in clean and renewable energy and water. He praised DEWA’s efforts in promoting green economy, and commended the services DEWA provides to Dubai based Swiss companies.
