Statkraft and Aker Horizons joined forces to explore Indian ammonia and green hydrogen production opportunities.
A statement stated that Statkraft and Aker Horizons have signed collaboration agreements through Aker Clean Hydrogen, its portfolio company. This agreement will allow them to explore potential opportunities for ammonia and green hydrogen production in India.
According to the statement, the partnership brings together Statkraft (a leading developer and producer of renewable energy, with significant experience and presence in India) and Aker Clean Hygen (a global integrated hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol producer, built on Aker’s 180-year industrial heritage.
Statkraft has a lot of market activity and significant renewable energy production in India and is well-positioned to seize green hydrogen opportunities in this important and huge energy market. These opportunities help us grow our business, and lower greenhouse gas emissions in India,” stated Jurgen Tzschoppe (Executive Vice President International Power of Statkraft).
It stated that close to 9 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the steel and ammonia industry. These industries are considered hard-to-abate.
Green hydrogen is an emission-free option to decarbonizing these industrial areas and a way to increase the security of supply for both of these commodities.
Aker Clean Hydrogen, Statkraft and others have agreed to look at joint development opportunities for fully-integrated renewable energy generation and green hydrogen production in India. This will target domestic industries like the steel industry and ammonia for domestic and export.
