Iraq To Generate Renewable Energy Of 12 GW By 2030

Ihsan Abdul Jabbar, head of the Ministerial Energy Council said that Iraq has awarded contract to build 2,500 MW capacity of solar power projects to foreign companies.

These solar projects will help Iraq to achieve its target for producing 12,000 MW by 2030 of renewable energy. Iraq wants to achieve energy security, reduce power production costs, and cut electricity imports.

โ€œThese contracts involve the construction of high-capacity solar power stations through Iraqโ€ฆthese contracts and other planned projects will boost the countryโ€™s renewable energy production to 12,000 MW by 2030,โ€ the Minister told.

Iraq has power generation capacity of approximately 19 GW and the demand is of 30 GW. Recently, 750 MW solar park was unveiled to be established in the southern Al-Muthanna Governorate and 150 MW solar project in Al-Anbar Governorate.
