Mustafa Shatti, the mayor of Deir Alla, stated that the solar energy project helped to save JD400,000 annually in annual expenses. This was reflected in the provision of more services to the community, improvement of the infrastructure, and the launch of the development of enterprises.
Shatti, who spoke at the meeting with Harjit Sajjan (Canadian International Development Minister) and a delegation from Sustainable Energy and Economic Development Project, noted that the project was successfully implemented with Canadian government funding.
Shatti stated that the project created job opportunities for local communities and launched environmental businesses that help improve the eco-situation of the region.
Mohammad Ramadan (SEED project director), stressed the importance of partnerships with Jordan’s municipalities. He noted that the Deir Alla municipality has been a leading local authority in this area, and highlighted the project’s activities within the Ajloun governorate and in Deir Alla regional.
This project involved installing energy-saving lamps and training young people in maintenance work. It also included building solar cells for many homes throughout the Deir Alla area. The school’s health centre was supported with energy-generation panels.
The Canadian minister expressed appreciation for the sound management of the project and the follow-up.
