EnDev Uganda has launched a tender for the selection of consultancy services for the development of solar irrigation in Central and Eastern Uganda. Interested bidders can apply electronically by 29 September 2022, 4.00 pm (EAT).

Energizing Development (EnDev) is an initiative of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl), under the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. It is set up to provide access to sanitization, clean drinking water, and modern energy services to underserved people in developing countries.

The call for expressions of interest is opened under EnDevโ€™s Sustainable Energy for Smallholder Farmers (SEFFA) project. The project aims to provide access to sustainable, affordable, and renewable energy technologies for the productive use of energy in the agricultural sector.

Consultancy firms that are duly registered in Uganda can also apply as consortiums with one firm as the lead agency. The selected consultancy firm will be responsible for organizing awareness workshops, training, and advising farmers on solar-powered irrigation.

According to GIZ, the consultancy firm will be targeted towards bridging the knowledge gaps on solar irrigation among various stakeholders. The initiative will create market demand and accelerate the uptake of solar irrigation in Eastern and Central Uganda.

Launched in 2002, the EnDev program has been involved in the implementation of several clean energy projects in recent years which benefited nearly 25 million people worldwide. The initiative provided an output-based grant (RBF) to the solar off-grid provider Renewvia Energy in 2020 for the installation of three solar-powered mini-grids in two counties of Kenya.
