El Gouna is one of Orascom Development’s fully integrated sustainable communities. In partnership with SolarizEgypt, they organized a field trip to the solar plant.
According to a press release, the solar plant covers 245,000 square meters and produces 14 Gigawatt-Hours annually. It has investments of EGP 97 million.
El Gouna’s sun-generating solar plant is self-consumptive and has a 25-year independent power producer. It can produce 7.128 MWp, which will cover 16% of the town’s electricity needs.
The solar plant generates clean energy that is equivalent to taking around 1187 cars off the roads for 1 year. It also cuts 7,106.6kg of carbon dioxide emissions and saves 2,879.7kg of standard coal plus planting around 384.9 trees.
El-Gouna’s CEO Mohamed Amer said, “Orascom Development has been committed to delivering its vision of creating sustainable, integrated towns for more than 33 years since El-Gouna’s inception.
