Jordan And Norway Sign Several Agreements In Green Energy And Hydrogen Field

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan announced that Norway and Jordan have signed several agreements to strengthen their partnership in the field of green energy and hydrogen.

This announcement comes after a delegation from Jordan headed by Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, energy minister, visited Scandinavia last week.

The visit was attended by Muawia Radaideh, the environment minister, and representatives from the private and public sectors. They discussed with Norwegian officials how to implement joint cooperation programs that aim at ensuring energy security, and diversification, and making Jordan a regional hub for exporting green energy.

Al-Kharabsheh stated in a statement that he and Terje Aasland, Norway’s minister for petroleum and energy, had discussed the next steps in the preparation of a joint project to build an interconnector to transport low-cost green energies from the Middle East and North Africa to Europe.

Meetings with Norwegian officials and Jordanian officials were also part of the visit. The goal was to attract investments in the fields of renewable energy, green hydrogen, and oil and gas exploration.

Al-Kharabsheh says that both sides stressed the importance of using existing infrastructure for transporting green hydrogen.

Amani Al-Azzam (secretary general of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) stated that Jordan is working to increase the proportion of renewables to 30% by 2010.
