New Solar-Powered Irrigation System Inaugurated In Barangay Baruyan, Philippines

A new solar-powered irrigation system (SPIS), worth approximately P6 million, was inaugurated in Sitio Bagong Silang in Barangay Baruyan of the Philippines.

The City Agricultural Services Department and the Department of Agriculture funded this project. Its goal was to provide farmers with a more comfortable life by eliminating the need to purchase electricity or crude oils for their machinery in irrigation.

Maritess Panopio (Director of the Regional Executive Office DA-Mimaropa), Marilou Morillo (Mayor of the City), and the representative for the first district at the lower house Cong. attended the event.

The development and optimal use of the country’s renewable energy resources are central to the Philippines’ sustainable energy agenda. Renewable energy is an essential part of the country’s low-emissions development strategy and is vital to addressing the challenges of climate change, energy security, and access to energy.
