Trina Solar’s technical leader and associate vice president of technology, Dr. Yifeng Chen, has been selected as the recipient of the esteemed 2023 IEEE Stuart R. Wenham Young Professional Award, as announced by the 50th Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (IEEE PVSC). The award recognizes Dr. Chen’s outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of photovoltaic energy conversion.
Headquartered in New York, USA, IEEE is a prominent professional technical organization, established in 1963. In 2014, the institute introduced the Young Professional Award, later renamed in honor of Prof. Stuart Wenham, which is presented annually to individuals who have made significant advancements in photovoltaic energy conversion, including work on PV materials, devices, modules, and systems.
At Trina Solar, Dr. Chen leads the research and development (R&D) team, playing a pivotal role in driving technological innovation and facilitating the transfer to mass production. Trina Solar has already set an impressive 25 world records for solar cell conversion efficiency and module power output. Notably, their mass-produced 210mm n-type i-TOPCon cell has achieved an exceptional efficiency of 25.3%, providing substantial benefits to customers and the PV industry.
The grand occasion of the 50th IEEE PVSC, scheduled for June 11, 2023, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, will witness the presentation of the IEEE Stuart R. Wenham Young Professional Award to Dr. Chen. In addition to receiving the award, Dr. Chen will deliver an extended oral presentation, highlighting the remarkable performance of the 210mm n-type i-TOPCon cells and modules.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Chen stated, “This award is also a recognition of Trina Solar, and particularly, every researcher on our R&D team. In the future, we will further accelerate the industrialization of high-efficiency technologies and promote the application of high-efficiency and reliable Vertex modules.”
Dr. Chen has previously been honored for his contributions to the field, receiving the “SiliconPV Award” at the 2013 SiliconPV conference in Hamelin, Germany, and the “Young Researcher Award” at the 2014 World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC) in Kyoto, Japan.
This prestigious award serves as a testament to Dr. Chen’s and his team’s remarkable accomplishments in high-efficiency solar cell and module R&D, reaffirming Trina Solar’s position as a global leader in PV technology. Trina Solar is committed to intensifying its R&D efforts in advanced high-efficiency 210/210R products utilizing n-type i-TOPCon technology, with the aim of developing products that offer superior performance and increased value for customers worldwide.
