Daikin Middle East and Africa FZE, a prominent manufacturer of solutions in Air Conditioning, Heating, Ventilation, and Refrigeration, proudly announces a significant achievement in the UAE. The company has recently signed the Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge, an initiative led by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). This step aligns with Daikin’s Environmental Vision 2050 and supports the UAE’s strategic goals of achieving Net Zero by 2050 and advancing its Clean Energy Strategy. As the UAE prepares to host COP28, this pledge underscores the crucial collaboration between the government and private sectors in addressing climate change.
At the signing ceremony during the 11th session of the MOCCAE-hosted National Dialogue for Climate Action (NDCA), Daikin UAE, represented by Samer Alawiah, UAE Managing Director, joined in the pledge. The NDCA, a specialized platform, saw the participation of Her Excellency Mariam AlMheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.
Samer Alawiah, UAE Managing Director at Daikin, expressed, “We take great pride in being given the opportunity by MOCCAE to sign the Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge. This significant step solidifies Daikin’s alignment with the UAE’s international climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement, and bolsters the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.”
He further stated, “During our recent seminar, ‘Towards a Sustainable Future,’ we emphasized our commitment to sustainable cooling and the importance of unified efforts, from businesses to individuals, to support the government’s decarbonization endeavors for a sustainable future. Signing this pledge is yet another stride in this direction, reflecting our responsibility as a local entity in sync with the community’s needs.”
By pledging to the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge, Daikin UAE commits to intensifying its actions against climate change. This includes reducing its scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint, contributing to the national net-zero objective by 2050 or even earlier.
Daikin leads as an example in embracing renewable energy, a prime instance being its Middle East and Africa headquarters in JAFZA, Dubai. The company’s initiative last year included the installation of a 515 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar plant with 1000 panels on the headquarters’ roof. This effort is in complete harmony with Daikin’s Environmental Vision 2050 and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and Clean Energy Strategy.
Additionally, Daikin’s HVAC-R innovations prioritize minimizing environmental impact, commencing from the product development stage. The company’s focus on reduced emissions, enhanced energy efficiency, and adoption of eco-friendly refrigerants contributes to a sustainable future.
