Construction has commenced on a 5.1 megawatt (MW) solar farm located in Concepcion town, Iloilo province, as part of the ongoing efforts of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC).
PCPC, known for operating a 135 MW coal-fired power plant in the same area, is celebrating its seventh anniversary of commercial operations. This solar project represents PCPC’s expansion into the realm of renewable energy.
PCPC’s President and CEO, Nicandro Fucoy, highlighted the significance of the solar farm, emphasizing its potential to reduce carbon emissions while contributing as an additional energy source.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. praised PCPC’s green initiative, aligning it with the provincial government’s commitment to renewable energy.
He noted that Iloilo was the first local government in the country to pass an ordinance in accordance with Republic Act No. 9513, (the Renewable Energy Act).
The construction of the solar farm will be carried out by China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No. 1 Electric Power Construction Company Ltd. (NEPC), an affiliate of China Energy Engineering Corporation.
