GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Secures Major Smart Metering Project In Uttar Pradesh

GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Private Limited (GSEDPL), formerly a stepdown subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited, has been awarded a Letter of Award (LOA) by Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited. This LOA signifies GSEDPL’s successful bid to undertake a transformative smart metering project in the Agra and Aligarh zones of Uttar Pradesh.

This achievement follows GSEDPL’s previous success in securing the LOA from Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PuVNL) for two zones – Varanasi, Azamgarh zone, and Prayagraj, Mirzapur zone. The company’s commitment to install, integrate, and maintain a remarkable 50.17 lakh smart meters in these regions garnered considerable attention.

Building on this momentum, GSEDPL’s latest endeavor with Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited involves the implementation of smart metering technology in the Dakshinanchal region, specifically the Agra and Aligarh zones. The ambitious project is set to see the installation, integration, and maintenance of 25.52 lakh smart meters, signifying a substantial step towards modernizing the state’s energy infrastructure.

The project timeline estimates an implementation period of 27 months from the contract’s execution date, followed by an operating period of 93 months. With a total contract value of approximately ₹24,69.71 crore (inclusive of GST) for the Agra and Aligarh Zones, this initiative promises significant economic impact and technological advancement.

This milestone can be attributed to GSEDPL’s active participation in the e-tender process initiated by UP Discoms for various regions within Uttar Pradesh. Emerging as the successful bidder underscores the company’s commitment to driving innovation and efficiency within the energy sector.

The Smart Metering Project, an integral part of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiative, encompasses supply, installation, integration, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of smart meters. This comprehensive approach leverages state-of-the-art technology and software solutions, offering end-to-end automated system management.

Crucially, the project aligns with the objectives of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and is expected to contribute significantly to reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses in the designated areas. Furthermore, it aims to enhance operational efficiency and collection rates for UP Discoms.

This monumental endeavor, spanning a decade, represents a remarkable stride in the evolution of Uttar Pradesh’s power distribution infrastructure. With GSEDPL at the helm, the future holds promise for a more efficient, technologically advanced, and sustainable energy landscape in the state.
