LIMA Water’s Solar Panel Project Powers Sustainability At LIMA Estate

LIMA Water, a subsidiary of Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) specializing in water and wastewater services at LIMA Estate, is setting an eco-conscious example with its latest endeavor. The successful installation of a 99.9 kW solar panel system at the Sewage Treatment Plant 2 (STP2) in April has enabled LIMA Water to generate approximately 400 kWh of clean energy daily, entirely powering the facility.

The solar panel project not only reduces energy expenses but also contributes significantly to environmental sustainability. It’s anticipated to generate 146 MWh annually, slashing energy costs and eliminating around 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This reduction is akin to the ecological benefit of planting over 3,500 trees, which is crucial in the fight against climate change.

Hazele Manalo, General Manager of LIMA Water, highlighted the company’s dedication to environmental protection and sustainability through innovative technologies. He emphasized that the solar project is a major step in addressing carbon emissions and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

This initiative by LIMA Water is in line with Aboitiz InfraCapital’s broader commitment to sustainability across its sectors. Eduardo Aboitiz, AIC Head of Water Business and President of Apo Agua, mentioned that AIC is dedicated to responsible natural resource utilization and outlined the groundbreaking water-energy nexus concept applied by Apo Agua in Davao. This approach allows the Water Treatment Plant to operate entirely on renewable energy generated from the natural flow of water.

In 2022, LIMA Water implemented SMART Water Network Technology, integrating all its water systems. This integration led to significant reductions in operational costs, repairs, and fuel consumption. It also ensures rapid responses to water-related concerns, guaranteeing high facility uptime and benefiting over 150 locators at LIMA Estate.

Currently, LIMA Water is actively exploring transitioning one of its major facilities to renewable energy sources as part of the Green Energy Option Program.
