Merbau Corporation, the renewable energy (RE) arm of JG Summit Holdings, has successfully commenced commercial operations for its 13.811-megawatt peak (MWp) solar installation in Batangas City, heralded as the largest solar rooftop project in the Philippines.
The facility, located in Barangays Simlong and Pinamucan Ibaba, will supply solar-generated electricity to JG Summit’s integrated petrochemical complex.
Merbau’s President and CEO, Patrick Henry C. Go, sees this project as a significant step in their journey to become a leading renewable energy company in the country.
The conglomerate plans to expand its RE portfolio for broader use and to solidify its commitment to sustainable and innovative energy solutions.
The solar rooftop installation spans nine buildings and was completed in two phases, with the larger 8.0MW second phase achieving commercial completion in April 2023.
The project aims to reduce overall power consumption, contributing to JG Summit’s net-zero goals and leading to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The estimated annual energy savings are 17.8 gigawatt-hours, with a corresponding reduction of 17,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
