LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (LONGi), a global leader in solar technology, today shared the companyโs groundbreaking strategic vision to implement energy equity in partnership with NGOs, non-profits, and other humanitarian aid organizations at COP28. This initiative also advances the companyโs vision to implement sustainable development by making affordable, clean energy available for everyone, what it calls โenergy equityโ.
Recent statistics from the World Bank highlight the glaring contrast in energy utilization, with the top 20% of economies accounting for a staggering 80% of the world’s energy consumption. At the same time, 11 percent of the global population grapples with a lack of electricity, while one-third lacks access to clean energy for cooking, directly impacting local economic development and the overall quality of life.
โAs a global leader in solar innovation and research, LONGi is dedicated to driving sustainable development and we are eager to transform communities through clean energy,โ said LONGi Vice President Dennis She. โLONGi also views supporting humanitarian efforts with clean energy solutions as a way to foster energy equity, and our vision underscores LONGiโs commitment to promoting sustainability and resilience in the face of global challenges.โ
Also speaking at the event were representatives from LONGi and the public and private sectors including Chinaโs Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the UN Global Science-Policy-Business Forum (UNSPBF), the Rocky Mountain Institute, Schneider Electric, and Siraj Power.
The issue of energy inequality directly affects economic development and the quality of peopleโs lives. Fortunately, technological innovation has resulted in photovoltaic solutions becoming one of the most economical sources of electricity in many parts of the world. For billions of years, the sun has nurtured life on Earth with “light” while providing a rich variety of energy sources for humanity. The energy the sun provides to the earth each year is equivalent to 100 billion trillion kilowatt-hours, and people have only used about 30 trillion kilowatt-hours.
In the context of “Carbon Neutrality” becoming a global consensus, solar PV, as a representative of green, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly renewable energy, has gradually taken center stage in the energy transition. With significant breakthroughs in solar cell conversion efficiency over the past decade, from April 2021 to the present, LONGi has refreshed the world record for both silicon solar cell and silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell efficiency with 26.81% and 33.9% respectively, becoming the “Dual Champion” in the mainstream track of global PV.
โLONGi is willing to innovate and collaborate with countries and regions worldwide, continuously breaking through the limits of commercializing solar energy applications. We are looking forward to providing affordable clean energy for all humanity, truly realizing โSolar for Allโ.โ said Dennis She.
