Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s MD & CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, recently met with HE Andrew Bowie MP, the UK Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, at 10 Downing Street in London. The discussions centered around global energy sector transformations, the growing emphasis on clean and renewable energy, environmental protection, and climate change mitigation.

The meeting also explored strategic cooperation to involve the British government and private entities in water and clean energy projects in Dubai and the UAE. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s commitment to achieving the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and briefed the UK Minister on the latest technologies and projects aimed at advancing renewable and clean energy in Dubai.

Moreover, Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aims to derive 100% of energy production from clean sources by 2050. Key projects discussed included the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park globally, and the innovative pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta.

The latter, a first in the GCC region, will boast a production capacity of 250 MW and a storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt-hours. Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s pioneering Green Hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, positioning the UAE as a leader in sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions. The meeting underscored the importance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange to address climate challenges and transition towards renewable energy sources.
