The cabinet approved a proposed amendment to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill for 2024, intending to regulate the sale and purchase of electricity from renewable sources in homes and buildings.
The legislation aims to define the systems, devices, and equipment for renewable energy, as well as rationalize customs duties and sales tax exemptions for consumed energy.
Additionally, the government granted a 50% exemption from legal penalties and interest to beneficiaries of the Jordanian Cooperative Corporation, conditional on repaying the loan principal within two months.
The meeting, led by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, included a report on measures to prevent price hikes and ensure strategic stockpiles of essential goods.
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yousef Shamali highlighted efforts to maintain stable prices until the end of Ramadan and reported on inspections of 7190 premises, issuing 463 violations and addressing 246 complaints.
He emphasized the adequacy of basic food stockpiles and ongoing market monitoring.
The cabinet also appointed Ahmed Sawwa’i as Secretary-General of the Audit Bureau, accepted the resignation of Economic and Social Council Secretary-General Metri Mdanat, and referred Ministry of Local Administration for Technical Affairs Secretary-General Hussein Mehaidat to retirement. The draft law will now undergo parliamentary review and ratification procedures.
