SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of state-run SJVN, has been awarded contracts to develop solar power projects with a total capacity of 1,352 megawatts (MW) in Maharashtra. The projects, valued at approximately Rs 7,436 crore, represent a significant step towards expanding India’s renewable energy capacity. The announcement came following the receipt of Letters of Award (LoA) in a ceremony attended by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, SJVN’s Finance Director Akhileshwar Singh, and SGEL CEO Ajay Singh.

The solar power projects will be established across four locations: Nashik, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Pune, as part of the Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0. This initiative aligns with the larger goal of solarising agriculture feeders, thereby reducing dependency on conventional power sources and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural operations.

SGEL secured the projects through a competitive bidding process organized by MSEB Agro Power Limited, Maharashtra, which had a total tender capacity of 7,000 MW. SGEL’s bid included proposals for 500 MW in the first round and 1,000 MW in the second.

These projects contribute to the national objective under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, aiming to promote feeder-level solarisation as the largest of its kind in India. They also mark SGEL’s inaugural venture into the PM-KUSUM Scheme, with potential eligibility for Central Financial Assistance covering up to 30% of the project costs. SJVN has set ambitious targets to reach a capacity of 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040, aligning with India’s commitment to generating half its energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.
