SJVN Secures LOI for 200 MW Solar Endeavor in Kachchh’s Khavda from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam

SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of the renowned SJVN focused on renewable energy, has marked a significant milestone by securing a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to develop a 200 MW solar power project. This project, part of GUVNL’s Phase-XXIII, was awarded to SGEL following a tariff-based competitive bidding process, where SGEL proposed an impressive bid of Rs. 2.66 per unit. The bidding concluded with an electronic reverse auction.

Smt. Geeta Kapur, the Chairperson and Managing Director of SJVN, disclosed that the estimated cost for the project’s development is pegged at Rs. 1,100 crores. The solar park, designated for this initiative, is located within the premises of the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) at Khavda in the Kachchh district, Gujarat. A forthcoming Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with GUVNL, pending tariff adoption by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), is the next step forward. The project’s completion timeline is ambitiously set for 18 months post the PPA signing.

Expected to generate approximately 508.40 million units of energy in its inaugural year, the project’s energy production over 25 years is anticipated to total around 11,698.16 million units. Moreover, this green endeavor will significantly contribute to environmental conservation by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 573,210 tonnes.

SJVN Limited, recognized as a Mini Ratna- Category-I and Schedule-‘A’ entity under the Ministry of Power, India, was established on May 24, 1988. It represents a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. With its diversified portfolio encompassing hydro, thermal, wind, solar energy, power trading, and transmission, SJVN is on a strategic path to expand its installed capacity to 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040, aligning with its long-term vision.
